Centralia is a borough and ghost town in Columbia County, Pennsylvania, United States. Its population has dwindled from over 1,000 residents in 1981 to 12 in 2005 and 9 in 2007, as a result of a mine fire burning beneath the borough since 1962. Centralia is now the least-populous municipality in Pennsylvania, with four fewer residents than the borough of S.N.P.J.

Awesome Ball's Pyramid !

Ball's Pyramid is an erosional remnant of a shield volcano and caldera that formed about 7 million years ago. Balls Pyramid is 20 km (13 miles) southeast of Lord Howe Island in the Pacific Ocean. It is 562 m (1844 ft) high, while measuring only 1100 m (3600 ft) in length and 300 m (1000 ft) across, making it the tallest volcanic stack in the world. Balls Pyramid is located at 31°45?21?S 159°15?02?E? / ?31.75583°S 159.25056°E? / -31.75583; 159.25056Coordinates:31°45?21?S 159°15?02?E? / ?31.75583°S 159.25056°E? / -31.75583; 159.25056. It is part of the Lord Howe Island Marine Park.

Balls Pyramid has a few satellite islets. Observatory Rock and Wheatsheaf Islet lie about 800 m WNW and 800 m WSW, respectively, of the western extremity of Balls Pyramid. Southeast Rock is a pinnacle located about 3.5 km southeast of Balls Pyramid. Like Lord Howe Island and the Lord Howe seamount chain, Balls Pyramid is based on the Lord Howe Rise, part of the submerged continent of Zealandia.

Destruction Of Plymouth !

Destruction

Beginning in July 1995, a series of huge eruptions by the Soufrière Hills volcano sent lava flows and ash falls across a wide area of southern Montserrat, including Plymouth. It was immediately clear that the city was in danger; on 21 August 1995, tephra fell on Plymouth and in December, residents were evacuated as a precaution. They were allowed back a few months later, but on 25 June 1997 a massive eruption produced pyroclastic surges that killed 19 people and reached nearly to the island's airport. Plymouth was again evacuated. Between 4–8 August, a further series of eruptions destroyed approximately 80% of the city, burying it under 1.4 metres (4.6 ft) of ash. This burned many of the buildings therefore making inhabitation nearly impossible for a sizable portion of the residents. The pyroclastic flows had a heavy viscosity of volcanic lava, volcanic ash, and other volcanic rock types that has a density similar to concrete; therefore, removal of the material would take explosives, bulldozers and other resources too expensive for widespread use in any excavation attempt, especially since the land and soil underneath the hardened mud and lava would have been scorched and left completely non-arable by the flow itself. The city was abandoned and the southern half of the island was declared an exclusion area due to the continued activity of Soufrière Hills. The island's government was moved to Brades, though Plymouth still remains the de jure capital since no new capital has been formally created.

By July 12, 1997, pyroclastic flows had burned much of what was not covered in ash

The destruction of Plymouth caused severe problems for Montserrat. It was the largest settlement on the island, with around 4,000 inhabitants, and it contained most of the island's shops and services in addition to its seat of government. Some of the lost facilities have been re-created elsewhere on Montserrat, but more than two-thirds of the island's population was evacuated overseas and most of those have not returned.

A Ghost Town Buried In The Sand !

Kolmanskop is a ghost town in southern Namibia.
It became popular in 1908, when people rushed into the desert hoping to make money out of the diamond fever. At the time the diamonds were very easy to find, they would lay fully exposed on top of the sand. This caused a diamond rush from all over the world and the once desolated desert was full of fortune seekers.
Within two years a town was established in the desert with some 700 families living in it.
But after the drop in diamond sales, everyone left and the place became deserted again. The dunes began to reclaim what was always theirs.
A couple of old buildings are still standing, but the rest are just crumbling ruins.
